A woman was found with an eight-inch knife in her possession at a Swansea city center hotel. On Saturday June 11 this year, two police officers were on foot patrol along Wind Street when at 1.21am they were asked to respond to calls from a ‘woman in distress’ at the Dragon Hotel along the Kingsway . Chloe Nadine Parry was on the phone with a call handler and said someone was following her. When officers arrived, they found her behind a reception desk “sweating profusely and shaking”. As one of the officers was talking to Parry, they could see that she had her hand in the pocket of a hoodie she was wearing. They asked her what she was holding and she told them it was a knife.

Swansea Crown Court heard how Parry was in a distressed state and told officers she had to be taken away ‘because there was a bounty on her head’. After initially hesitating to do so, she gave officers the knife, which measured eight inches. She was arrested and later interrogated and provided no comment. The 22-year-old homeless young woman has six convictions for 11 offenses on her record. She appeared at sentencing for admitting to possessing a knife in a public place.

Mitigating Andrew Evans said: “She was living in Bristol but made a mistake moving back to Swansea thinking her past would have no impact on her. There is a history with others and people who according to she, wanted to hurt her by having her arm herself as she did that day. She can see in the future that it is better not to be in Swansea and have a fresh start somewhere else. She appreciates that she is going to be in custody for the near future, but upon her release, she hopes to be able to make a valuable contribution to society.”

Parry sentenced to six months in prison Judge Paul Thomas QC described it as a “terribly sad case”. He added: “You arrived at the Dragon Hotel in Swansea in quite a shameful state. You were sweating, you were shaking, and you were paranoid and you had a bladed knife on you. You went back to Swansea, you came back to the drugs, and were in possession of a bladed item. This is a very unusual case because I was told that you want to go to jail and want to get sober again. Because that’s your wish, that’s what I will do. I sincerely hope that you release, get clean and at 22 start living the kind of life you are capable of. I wish you luck with that.”

THE WASHINGTON POST — Marriott International is the world’s largest hotel company, offering travelers nearly 1.5 million rooms at more than 8,000 properties. Yet when I embarked on a recent quest for lodging in Annapolis, the hospitality giant led me not to any of its brands — four in Maryland’s state capital alone — but to a charming pied-à-terre with a gourmet kitchen, a Romeo and Juliet-worthy balcony, and prompt staff to help with major (unlocking the door) and minor (locating coffee grounds) issues.

“Welcome to ‘The Port’. Our team is here for you,” read a note from the owners of iTrip Vacations Annapolis, the property management company that oversees the Marriott home.

To my relief, they really meant what they wrote.

In recent years, hotel chains have ventured into the short-term rental market, an area long dominated by peer-to-peer platforms populated by moonlighting individuals in the hospitality industry.

The arrangement is simple: the owner provides the residence and the hotel or its industrial partner takes care of the rest, such as processing the reservation, recommending or booking excursions, troubleshooting problems, tidying up during the stay and deep cleaning after departure.

Travelers also enjoy hotel perks — loyalty program rewards, access to resort amenities — without having to enter a lobby.

For example, vacationers who book through Onefinestay, the upscale rental company AccorHotels bought in 2016, can earn and redeem points with Accor’s Live Limitless program. In London, tenants benefit from special offers, such as the Pamper package, and reduced rates at Sofitel London St James, an Accor brand.

Relais et Châteaux, which has a constellation of five-star accommodations, combines its private guests with its starred chefs and restaurants.

“Business travelers as well as many leisure travelers appreciate what Airbnb lacks and what hotel brands do best: availability (hotels cannot be delisted at short notice), hospitality, brand standards and loyalty program benefits,” said Professor Chekitan Dev of Cornell University’s Nolan School. hotel administration in Ithaca, New York. “That’s why most major hotel companies are extending their brands into private residences.”

Of the handful of players, Homes and Villas by Marriott International has the largest inventory and broadest reach, with around 60,000 properties in around 75 countries, a mix of vacation rental mainstays (France, Mexico, Hawaii) and unusual vacation spots (Qatar, Kazakhstan, Mauritius). (For context, Airbnb claims around six million listings.) Accor’s Onefinestay comes a long way behind with 4,500 homes, villas and chalets worldwide.

Relais et Châteaux entered the game in April 2021, and its portfolio has grown to 585 chalets, castles, wine estates and other types of charming habitats on six continents.

Mandarin Oriental Exclusive Homes, which launched in March with properties from StayOne, and Auberge Resorts Collection have a more limited menu, with eight and nine properties respectively. Graduate Hotels, which targets college towns, is the latest arrival: The company plans to roll out Graduate Homes in Oxford, Mississippi, this fall, just in time for Ole Miss football season. So far, four owners have signed up. The rental program also recruits residences in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Knoxville, Tennessee.

“We’re looking for centrally located single-family homes with outdoor space and adequate parking,” Graduate Hotels president Kevin Osterhaus said of the company’s criteria. “They also need to be unique and high-end.” The company does not dictate the decoration, but they will provide linens, toiletries and, if necessary, dishes. He will also help you with housekeeping and concierge services, and even prepare meals and arrange transportation.

The homes, which will rent for around $1,500 to $3,000 per night, may appear on other rental sites, but, Osterhaus said, Graduate Homes will retain exclusive rights to the properties during major college events, such as as graduation and reunion.

Hotels do not always have a padlock on rentals; many appear elsewhere online.

Mandarin Oriental shares its listings with StayOne, which brought its inventory to the relationship. During my dig search in Annapolis, I found several “Marriott” properties on Booking.com, Vrbo, and iTrip Vacations Annapolis, which manages Annapolis area homes and apartments for the hotel chain. However, with curated collections, you don’t have to wade through pages of duds to find the aces; hotels do the hard work for you.

“There’s so much out there – thousands of homes, shared bedrooms and basements,” Vice President of Homes and Villas by Marriott International Jennifer Hsieh said, referring to the least popular rental sites. demanding. “There is no quality filter.”

Hsieh said Marriott has created homes and villas in response to the rise of the sharing economy.

“We watched him grow,” she said. A 2017 survey of loyal Marriott Bonvoy members was also a motivating factor: nearly 30% of respondents said they had strayed from the fold to book a private property. The company hoped to entice them to return with rentals bearing the Marriott seal of approval, as well as the promise of points.

“Airbnb doesn’t have a loyalty program,” said Points Guy editor Madison Blancaflor. “The ability to earn and burn points, as well as support and customer service, are major advantages.”

Similar to hotel room reservations, Bonvoy-ites can pay for their rental with points or a combination of points and cash.

They can also earn points and even pocket enough rewards to fund future vacations. Points Guy editor Scott Mayerowitz racked up $1,220.75 in Bonvoy points on a five-night condo rental in Vail, Colorado. He chronicled the impressive feat in his March post, “How I Tripled and Earned 210,000 Miles on an Epic Marriott Homes and Villas Reservation.”

“Marriott offers a rental experience and their loyalty program is huge,” Blancaflor said. “But that won’t make sense for all travelers. People have to do the math. »

For my first rental, I used Marriott because of its many regional options and less stratospheric rates. His search tool produced 30 options for the Annapolis area, which I narrowed down to three. Then two, after determining that a mid-century ranch named Admiral’s Retreat was too far from the water. Then one, after my favorite dates for Eastport Easy, a townhouse with an adjoining porch, disappeared.

When I plugged in the days for port, Marriott’s schedule only accepted a three night minimum. Used to negotiating with Airbnb landlords, I clicked the “contact property manager” button and asked if I could book two nights. A representative from iTrip Vacations answered with a yes.

Before I could commit, I had to complete a simple equation. (To compare apples to apples, I plugged the three-night rate quoted by iTrip and Marriott into the calculator.) ITrip’s total was about $300 less than Marriott’s, but to reap the savings, I would have to give up Bonvoy points. As a nonchalant loyal member, it wasn’t a major sacrifice: I only have 2,800 points, or $16.80, which would barely take a fraction of the price of $1,322. Also, I would earn 4,318 points, or about $26, on the rental, because Marriott only awards points on the base rate ($863) and not on the additional charges ($152 in taxes and fees). terrible cleaning of 307 USD).

I sided with the savings by booking directly with iTrip. Still, I owe Marriott for introducing me to the port. The one bedroom apartment was spotless and stylish. The property management team was attentive and responsive. And the welcome gift of red wine and crab chips was much appreciated, especially after a sunset stroll around the harbour.

I returned home relaxed and enlightened. In the future, I will be using my membership number on future Marriott stays, so that I can one day rent a private vacation home courtesy of the hotel chain.

On Thursday, GTA Online released its weekly update as always, and it was heavily focused on the Tuners DLC. Players can get three times the Car Meet rep for activities and also pick up the RT3000 at Casino Podium.

Double-reward missions include Tuner Contracts and Exotic Exports. This article will serve as a guide for GTA Online players who want to earn as much money as possible from the elusive cars on the exotic list.

What is the list of exotic exports in GTA Online?

Burn rubber and earn bonus Tuners all week in GTA Online. Including Double Rewards on Flight Contract Finals and Exotic Exports, 3X GTA$ for completing Auto Shop Customer Jobs, Triple Reputation Points on all Auto Encounter activities, and more: rsg.ms/3a8f9eb https://t.co/jZ5wYCCxq6

The first requirement that all GTA Online players must complete is to purchase an Auto Shop. Once purchased, GTA Online players should complete the first contract for Sessanta and Kenny. This will unlock the Exotic Exports list which is on the top floor of the Auto Shop.

The list includes ten exotic cars for GTA Online players to pick up and deliver to a container in the terminal. Each delivery rewards players with $20,000 and 1,000 RP and an additional $100,000 is rewarded if the list is complete. However, this week everything will be doubled.

The list is refreshed every 24 hours (in real time) and is generally the same for all players in a GTA Online lobby. So if another GTA Online player is spotted trying to deliver an exotic car, players can steal it and deliver it themselves.

GTA Online players can rest easy as cars spawn in all lobbies, not just public ones. Doing it in private lobbies or by invitation only is safer because there will be no heartaches or trials. Cars can also be delivered in any state as long as they are operational, and if destroyed, a new spawn will occur after some time.

Some additional tips include keeping the “Air Cargo” option set to “Show” via the interaction menu so that the blue dots appear on the minimap. GTA Online players should also only steal vehicles marked with blue dots to avoid disruption to activity. Switching to passive mode will cause the blue and red dots to disappear from the minimap.

Rivers State eventually dismissed nine counts of theft, cheating and conspiracy against former Governor Rotimi Amaechi in a bold move to bring charges against the former transportation minister.
It was then that the presiding judge in charge of the case, Judge David Gbasam, ordered substituted service of the accused yesterday.
In a complaint marked as PHC/1818/CR/2022, filed June 7, the state also listed All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate Arch Tonye Cole, Dr. Chamberlain Peterside, Sahara Energy Resources Limited, NG Power-HpS Limited and Cenpropsaroten Management Limited as Amaechi’s co-defendants.
The offenses of Amaechi and the co-accused were listed in the indictment, in Port Harcourt.
In the first count, the state said that Amaechi and his co-accused “between 2011 and 2012 in Port Harcourt within the Port Harcourt Division of the Rivers State High Court conspired between you to commit a crime by stealing the sum of $274,563,599.59”.
The document said the money came from the sale of the Rivers State Government’s 70% equity stake in the power generation assets of Omoku Gas Turbine, Eleme Gas Turbine and Afam Gas Turbine Phase 1. to NG Powers-HPS Limited.
In the second count, the state alleged that Amaechi and his co-defendants during the same period “stole the same amount of money from the sale of 70% of the shares owned by him in the production assets electricity from Omoku, Trans-Amadi, Eleme and Afam gas turbines.
The State, in Count Three, said Sahara Energy Resources Limited, NG-Powers-HPS Limited during the same period with intent to cheat, agreed to purchase from the State Government of Rivers 70% state-owned equity in the four turbine power generation assets. for the sum of $302,960,000.
The state said the companies effectively took possession, management and control of said power generation assets upon payment of the initial sum of $274,563,599.59, but refused to pay the outstanding balance of $28,400,000. $ owed to the state.
In the next count, the state alleged that Amaechi and his co-defendants in 2011 and 2012 conspired by fraudulent means to affect the market price of Rivers State’s four power generation assets.
She said the defendants had offered the sale of the assets exclusively to Sahara Energy Resources Limited, NG Power-HpS Limited (subsidiary of Sahara Energy Resources Limited) and Tonye Cole (director) instead of resorting to a planned open tender. in Section 52(3) of the Rivers State Public Procurement Act Number 4 of 2008.
The State further, in Count Five, alleged that Amaechi, Sahara Energy, Cenpropsaroten Hotel Management Limited and Cole during the same period “conspired by fraudulent means to affect the market price of the ‘Olympia Hotel, Port Harcourt by offering the said Olympia Hotel, Port Harcourt for concession exclusively to Sahara Energy Resources Limited and Cenpropsaroten Hotel Management Limited (Subsidiary of Sahara Energy) and Cole (Director) in lieu of prescribed open tender under Section 60(1) of the Rivers State Public-Private Participation in Infrastructure Development Act, Number 5 of 2009”.
The Rivers State government, also in count six, accused Amaechi, Sahara Energy, Cenpropsaroten and Cole of conspiring with each other to commit a crime by stealing $1 million as a concession fee which the defending companies paid the Rivers State government for the concession of the Olympia Hotel for a period. 40 years old.
The State, in Count Eight, alleged that Amaechi and Sahara Energy around December 1, 2014 conspired with each other to commit a crime by stealing the sum of $53,095,602.05 from the government’s USD account. Rivers number 0064809429 from Access Bank, Bank Road Branch, Port Harcourt.
The offenses would have been contrary to sections 421, 422, 516A and 383 of the Penal Code, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.
The indictment was signed by Director of Public Prosecutions, CF Amadi, for the Rivers State Attorney General.
The Rivers State High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, yesterday ordered substituted service of former transport minister Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi in connection with the nine counts of theft, conspiracy and of cheating brought against him by the Rivers State government.
The court also ruled that Rivers All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate Arch Tonye Cole, Dr Chamberlain Peterside, Sir Augustine Wokocha, Sahara Energy Resources Limited, NG Powers-HPS Limited and Cenpropsaroten Management Limited, tried alongside Amaechi, should be served by substitute means.
The State had brought criminal proceedings against the defendants alleging, among other things, that Sahara Energy Resources Limited, owned by Cole and NG-Powers-HPS Limited between 2011 and 2012, with intent to cheat, had agreed to purchase from Rivers State Government 70% state owned power generation assets in the four turbines for the sum of $302,960,000.
The state said the companies effectively took possession, management and control of said power generation assets upon payment of the initial sum of $274,563,599.59, but refused to pay the outstanding balance of $28,400,000. $ owed to the state.
The presiding judge, Judge David Gbasam, varied an order for substituted service that he issued on June 17 following an ex parte motion filed by the prosecutor, CF Amadi, on June 20.
Granting the prayers of the prosecutor, Gbasam replaced ThisDay newspaper and Vanguard newspaper with The Guardian newspaper and The Nation newspaper.
He granted the prosecution leave to serve the informations and other criminal process, charge number: PHC/1818/CR/2022 on all defendants in both newspapers.
“An order is also made considering the publication of the information and other processes in these proceedings in The Guardian newspaper and The Nation newspaper as good and proper service,” he said.
He adjourned the case to July 12 for pleas.

A Scottish TikTok account has been forced to defend a clip after it went viral – with people saying it’s ‘too perfect to be real’.

The Scotland Uncovered page recently posted the video which features stunning views of Buachaille Etive Mor, posing stags and even synchronized ducks flying high, on the popular social media site.

Greig McBride, 30, and his girlfriend Heather Lochhead, 27, who started the account, said the clip, which was taken from the parking lot of the Kingshouse Hotel in Glenc oe, shows “The Scotland is heaven on earth.”

However, they were quickly shocked to find that people thought they had faked the whole thing.

The jaw-dropping clip has been described as looking like something out of a “Disney movie”.

Scotland Now’s best stories of the week

Many comments began to question whether the clip was real, with one suggesting the film had been “played with somewhat”.

“We knew the clip was special,” Greig explained. “But we certainly didn’t expect the response he received.

“We thought it was kind of funny that people thought maybe it wasn’t real, but we can also see why because the video is so picturesque.

“Some people even said it was like a real Bob Ross painting.”

The TikTok has since had over a million views and has been shared on social media with people debating its authenticity.

The pair then posted a second, longer clip showing more of the beautiful scene, with deer swimming through the pool of water, in an attempt to help prove it hadn’t been improved or added to.

But people kept wondering if the video is 100% authentic.

Heather said: “It’s been weird having to defend it, but it’s such a perfect capture that we can understand why a lot of people think it might be a fake.

“Some people said it was like something straight out of a Disney movie.”

Greig added: “We take it more as a compliment to the perfection of the Scottish landscape.

British Muslims hoping to make a pilgrimage to Mecca risk losing thousands of pounds after the Saudi government imposed online booking.

Pilgrims have been asked to use a website to register their interest and that a lottery will be held to choose who will go to the Hajj.

Some have already booked with Hajj tour operators and could lose their money.

Hajj is a religious requirement for all Muslims who can afford it.

It is one of the five pillars of Islam along with five daily prayers, fasting, charity and belief in God (Allah) and Muhammad as a prophet.

The cost of a once-in-a-lifetime trip ranges from around £6,000 to over £10,000 and many Muslims spend years saving up for it.

Famida, alias, is in her thirties and lives in the North West of England. She told the BBC she had been waiting to go to Mecca with members of her extended family for two years.

She had registered her interest with a local travel agent and was very excited about realizing a significant part of her Islamic faith.

Famida said she was “heartbroken” when she learned she and her husband would have to book the tour online.

“It was so overwhelming it brought us to tears,” she said.

Famida was also unsure about using the new digital reservation system. She said she didn’t know what kind of service they would receive, whether they could visit all the historical sites, how much the trip would cost and who to complain to if something went wrong.

Despite her concerns, she submitted her and her husband’s name through the digital portal to say she wants to make the pilgrimage in a few weeks, but is worried about how much time she has to prepare.

“If you think about it practically, no. I have children who are in school, they go to football, to madrasah, they go to madrasah, cricket, football.

The leader of the all-party parliamentary group on Hajj and Umrah, Yasmin Qureshi, has written to the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, asking that the new system be postponed until next year.

In the letter seen by the BBC, Qureshi asked if the money paid to Saudi service providers would be refunded. She also said she was concerned that Muslims who had postponed their trip to 2020 could face significant financial losses if their pilgrimage was not carried out.

She is also concerned about how and if pilgrims’ money will be protected under the new regime.

Qureshi said, “Certainly for this year, don’t organize the portal system because it won’t work. Who do you complain to if things don’t go right? »

It is also unclear how many Hajj visas will be issued in the UK. Previously, around 25,000 were issued each year.

Figures quoted in some Arab media suggest that this number could now be halved.

Travel agents in the UK who specialize in organizing Hajj tours are also worried that they will lose out financially.

Mohsin Shah, a Manchester-based travel agent, and his London-based partner were due to take 48 pilgrims to Mecca later this month.

He said all pilgrims now had to book their visit online and he did not know how many would get visas to travel.

He charged £9,500 for a five-star package and paid out money to hotels and transport providers in Makkah.

“It’s a big (financial) impact (on us) because we don’t know what’s going to happen and how we can organize it because hotels have been booked and transportation.”

There are 3.72 million Muslims in the UK according to figures from the Office for National Statistics. All pilgrims from Europe, America and Australia must use the new online portal to book their pilgrimage.

The BBC has contacted Licensed Hajj Organizers UK, an independent industry watchdog, and the Council for British Hajjis UK for comment. The Saudi government was also asked to comment. (BBC)
