One step too far: Duncan Bannatyne’s wild birthday party took an unexpected sour after the Dragon’s Den star wore an original American headgear on social media, sparking accusations of cultural appropriation

Taken during a visit to upscale 1 Hotel South Beach Miami, the photo finds Bannatyne grimacing under a deteriorating smudge-feathered war bonnet, while Nigora – who is seated next to her hubby – reveals a decorative pattern on his forehead.

What is the Native American War Bonnet?

Considered an item of great spiritual and political significance, the War Bonnet is traditionally worn by highly respected male leaders in Native American and First Nations communities.

Originally they were sometimes worn in battle, but are now mainly used for ceremonies.

Because of their historical significance, they should only be worn by those who have earned the right to do so through formal recognition by their peers.
