Irish business The Kind moves online as town makes way for another hotel
We sense a trend here.
The owner of Irish lifestyle store The Kind has announced that she has made the difficult decision to move her business exclusively online, as the building currently housing her Fade Street store is set to be transformed – just wait for it – another hotel.
In an emotional Instagram post, Sheelin of The Kind wrote:
The building on Fade Street is to be turned into a hotel, I knew that from the start, but hoped things would change. Having no security with my lease, coupled with the uncertainty around covid, it’s been really difficult to continue to run the retail store, so I’ve decided to move fully online.
She lamented that the closure of her physical store also means the loss of her “wonderful team”.
The Kind, which stocks everything from clothes to cleaning products from more than 100 small businesses, will now switch to trading exclusively online.
Seeing successful local businesses intrinsic to Dublin’s cultural landscape being forced to make way for hotels is sadly a pattern we’ve seen repeated in recent years. The independent shops, bars and cultural venues we’ve unwittingly said goodbye to lately are the heart of the city, and as many have said before me, you wonder who would book a hotel to visit Dublin without them here .
Those looking to support The Kind can continue to do so ONLINE.
